Andrew Stackhouse departing, but the Dirt Derby will live on...

Andrew Stackhouse, founder of the Dirt Derby.

The Chariot Race, a one lap sprint. Racers start clipped in and ready to go.

A Sun and Ski Sports Bike Mechanic keeps racers rolling at the Dirt Derby.
John Hatlelid leaps the plank barriers. I love it when a plan comes together. Two Canon 580EX strobes are better than one.

I shot the 12.04 Dirt Derby after two canceled Derby's in a row. Rain apparently turns the Austin / Del Valle Motorcross Park into a clay nightmare unsuitable for riding. I was hoping to start work on a multimedia project featuring sights and sounds from the Dirt Derby, including an interview with founder Andrew Stackhouse, but the last two canceled events made this difficult. This past Tuesday marked Stack's final Derby before his much dreaded move to DC. Everyone is broke up about it, but no worries, the greatest show on dirt will go on. He has turned over the reigns to a very competent crew of cycling enthusiasts that will carry the torch with pride. Plus he'll be keeping an eye on things from DC. To make a long story short, I did get the interview and enough sound bites to carry my project forward. Look for it to be posted her in a week or so.
